The Honeywell Lyric Security System has added a whole new product line of wireless sensors called SiX Series. The SiX line includes a suite of next-generation devices that include a SiXPIR, SiXCT contact, SiXSMOKE detector, SiXGB, two-way SiXFOB and wireless SiXSIREN with LED indicator lights. SiX devices provide key advantages over the previous Honeywell 5800 devices.

The most popular and important advancement to SiX Sensors is its secure encryption. These devices send their supervised signals back to a supported control panel such as the Honeywell Lyric Controller by introducing secure 128 bit encrypted AES signals for a higher level of security. This is accomplished with direct sequence, spread spectrum DSSS, two-way radio utilizing the 2.4GHz RF band. In the 2.4GHz frequency there are 16 channels available for SiX devices and when it registers with a supported alarm control panel, it will automatically determine which frequency channel the panel is operating on. This creates a fluctuation in the reporting signals which enables the encryption.

SiX devices allow for easier DIY installations and maintenance with its easy pull battery tabs, auto enrollment, and no touch adjustment capabilities. SiX is easier to maintain with its addition of the system health check feature. This feature lets the end users monitor their devices signal strength so they know the location of the sensors is sufficient, battery life so one can prepare themselves to replace batteries before they go into a trouble condition, sensor settings to make self-adjustments to the way sensors react.  All of these additions can also be remotely monitored and adjusted by Alarmclub if you are a monitored client.

Lastly, a feature called Lyric Lock has been introduced. Honeywell Lyric Lock works when a SiX device is programmed to a Lyric Controller it can only communicate with that dedicated system until it has been deprogrammed. This is one feature to be cautious about because alarm companies can remotely turn Lyric Lock on to prevent account takeovers by competitors or self-programming. AlarmClub never locks their customers out of the system programming and gives them the option to how they want sensors to be programmed with their systems.

 DSC PowerSeries Neo – Highlighted Feature Video

The DSC PowerSeries Neo next generation hybrid security system boasts superior features that’s others just don’t have. The Neo system is smart enough to recognize the distance between RF receiver to the devices. This allows the panel to communicate with the sensor telling it whether it needs to pull maximum power or a reduced amount of power based on the distance. For example if a PG9945 wireless Neo contact is 1000 feet away from the RF receiver than that contact will likely be using max power. Yet, if the contact is 5 feet from the RF receiver it will not need to use as much battery power which in turn can make the battery life on your sensors last up to 10 years.

The Neo system Infused with industry-leading Power G 2-way wireless communication devices, the Neo is able to hop between wireless frequency channels so that if one is jammed, it will move to a free frequency. This allows for seamless, reliable communication between the control panel and devices and further encrypts the signals making it more difficult to tamper.

One of the most appealing feature of the Neo system is the range of the sensors. The Neo system can have a max of 1,000 feet distance between sensors and the RF receiver. Not to mention the additional 1,000 feet of when adding a power g wireless repeater. That is a total of 2,000 feet you can have spaced between the sensors and the RF receiver making this one of the most powerful hybrid security systems ever produced!

The Neo system has a few different ways of communicating its signal back to our central monitoring station. The first would be through a pots line or supported VOIP line. Typically we don’t prefer this mode because it is not the most reliable in the sense that an intruder could cut those lines, or the power can go out either of these will render your system useless. In addition, a phone line or VOIP line system will not allow you to have the alarm.com interactive services capabilities. There is also the PowerSeries Neo internet hybrid security system option. This method would share identical characteristics of a Neo phone line system. Lastly, you have the DSC PowerSeries Neo alarm.com cellular kit.

 The cellular Neo system will still offer your home or business security even if the power fails, or an intruder cuts your phone/internet lines leading into the home. The reason being is the cellular module that is installed into the Neo system is powered off of the alarm backup battery which allows for communications back to our central monitoring station even under the conditions reported above. The usage of the cellular kit will also allow for the use of Alarm.com interactive services by GEOARM. Having this feature unlocked is a huge advantage. It allows for GEOARM to remotely program and manipulate your alarm system remotely from our tech office at no extra cost (must be an alarm monitored client). Alarm.com allows for you to control your security system remotely. You can arm/disarm the system, view event history, change, add, or delete user profiles remotely from anywhere in the world with internet connectivity. Home automation becomes an option because inside the cellular module comes the z-wave radio which will allow your system to talk to z-wave home automation devices such as door locks, light modules, thermostats, and garage door sensors.

There is also a DSC Neo dual path hybrid alarm system. This version is the most reliable way to send your signals to our central monitoring station. It offers you all of the same great features as the above cellular system but, it allows your system two ways to communicate its alarm signals via internet primary and cellular backup.

With all of the pleasant holidays thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa all wrapped up in the winter months many people tend to get lost in all the joy and forget some key factors in home security and safety. Winter makes for a perfect time for intruders because you can bet there will be tons of distractions, traffic, less daylight, and most importantly lots and lots of expensive gifts.

Lets keep the holiday spirit going but, before you begin we are going to give you some simple tips to stay protected this winter.

1) Hide Tools

Many people during this time of the year put there tools to good use. Hanging decorations or shoveling snow out of the side walks and driveways. Make sure once you have completed the task take your tools and place them back inside so those tools cannot be used to pry open your doors or windows.

2) Limit Social Media

Lets face it social media is every where but, that doesn’t mean you have to place all of your personal information for everyone to see. Intruders can monitor social media accounts to get up to date information on travel information and or your whereabouts. Inform everyone who lives in the household to limit status updates until arrival from trip.

3) Make it seem as if someone is home

Intruders typically monitor a neighborhood before they select a target. So you want to make your home look as if it is occupied even when you are away on a vacation. Ask a neighbor or friend to stop by daily to collect incoming mail and newspapers. Also, to shovel the driveway and walkways to make its seem as if the home is still being maintained.

4) Leave Lights on

During the winter months set up timers to activate interior and exterior lights if possible. Proper lighting during the evening will deter a home intruder. Look into a security system that has randomized lighting control option for convenience.

5) Make sure Doors and Windows are Closed

This is by far the most common mistake home owners make. Something as simple as checking all doors and windows making sure they are locked can be the difference between an intruder choosing to enter or flee to another home.

6) Be Discrete with your Gift Purchases

Many home owners love to show off their Christmas tress and decorations inside there home. You will drive by some house’s and be able to look directly in seeing all of the gifts sitting under the tree. Try not to do this because it shows that you do have items to offer an intruder if they decide to go with your home. This also goes for your trash don’t throw the gift boxes directly into the trash and leave it in the front of your house. Try to make one large garbage bag and throw it away in an offsite location all at once.

7) Home security System

If you don’t have a Home security system you should think about installing one in your home. Intruders will typically stay away from a home that has a home security system. If they have been watching your home they will see whether you have one or not by the interaction between home owner and system. The security signs and stickers that are provided make sure to flaunt those where people can see so they know you are protected. Lastly, make sure to test your alarm signals once a week and before headed out of town.

 Honeywell L5210 : How to Install the Security System Using the L5000DM?

Today we are going to show you how to install the L5210 all in one home and business security system while using the L5000DM desk mount. The L5000DM desk mount is also used for some of the other LYNX Touch panels including the L5000, L5100, and L5200 wireless security systems. The items that you will need to complete the installation are as follows a small Phillips head screw driver “not included” the alarm backup battery, battery mounting bracket, and your dc transformer these items will come with the LYNX Touch L5210 wireless security system kit. For the easiest DIY installations make sure to add your LT-CABLE this part will make your life a whole lot easier!

The first step in the DIY Installation process is wiring the transformer. When looking at the back of the transformer you will notice there is a positive terminal and a negative terminal. The red wire from the LT-CABLE will be inserted into the positive end of the terminal and the black wire from the LT-CABLE will be inserted into the negative end of the terminal. (Make sure this is done correctly because there is polarity on this panel so if done incorrectly you run the risk of shorting your panel out). Once you have completed wiring the transformer take your L5210 wireless panel and depress the two tabs at the top of the system exposing the insides of the system. Place your Transformer to the side for the time being.

Now that you have your panel open we will be working with the alarm backup battery. At the top of the opened panel you can see that there is a housing area, place your backup battery with the wires coming out of the bottom left, run the wires through the designated slot and proceed to clip the excess wire in the three clamps as shown. Now take the backup battery mounting bracket and locate on the bottom end of the battery mounting area the two slots. For this installation we will be working with the slot on the right. “The slot to the left is to mount the high capacity backup battery which requires a bit more room because it is a larger battery”. Take the mounting bracket with the end with the with the notch insert that to the designated slot and push with your thumb lining up the screw hole. Take your Phillips head screw driver and proceed to screw in the mounting plate securing the battery. ( Do not plug in backup battery at this time).

Close the alarm panel but, not all the way and place the system on its LCD screen so you can see the back mounting plate. Notice the four mounting notches located in the middle of the mounting bracket. Now take your L5000DM desk mount which will have four mounting shoes, align those with the back plate mounting holes and slide the L5000DM upwards locking it into place. Take the panel flip it upright so it is seated on the desk mount. Expose the insides of the alarm system, take the unplugged LT-CABLE male end run it through the back of the desk mount and l5210 panel, go ahead and plug the male end of the LT-CABLE and plug it into the female end of the L5210 panel as shown. Insert all of your accessories such as 3gl cellular communicator, L5100-WIFI etc.. Next, we can plug the transformer in giving the alarm panel power. While the panel is booting up you can plug in the alarm backup battery and seal the panel up. While the panel is going through its booting process you hold down the solid home button for a few seconds which will expedite the booting process allowing you to manipulate your LCD keypad.

Congratulations you have just completed the DIY Installation of the Honeywell LYNX Touch L5210 Wireless security system using your L5000DM desk mount!

 How to Replace the Battery in the Honeywell 5853 Wireless Glass Break Sensor?

Today we are going to show you how to replace the battery in the Honeywell 5853 wireless glass break detector. This Honeywell 5853 wireless glass break detector uses a CR123A 3V battery.  Now go ahead and open the sensor by prying the top open allowing for the front plate to fall down. Go ahead and pull the old battery out, grab your new matching battery and slide the new battery into place. Look for the two lights on the bottom to flash and than seal the front plate back in place and you are all set you can expect another 3-5 years of service from this battery depending on how often it is in use.
