DIY Alarm Monitoring vs Professional Alarm Monitoring?

If you currently have a security system you may be wondering what is the difference between DIY alarm monitoring and professional alarm monitoring? DIY alarm monitoring services – Works when your home or business security system sends its alarm signals directly to your smart device via push notifications and or email’s. Once you receive these alarm signals it will be up to you to dispatch the proper authorities if need be. When thinking about activating DIY alarm monitoring keep in mind that your security system must have the ability to integrate with a interactive alarm monitoring application such as Honeywell’s total connect 2.0, Alarm.com, Telular home control etc… As these interactive security software’s are what allow for notifications from your security system back to your smart device’s.

Professional alarm monitoring – The way this works is if you think of your security system as a data center, that data than needs a method of transmitting those signals to a alarm monitoring station. Typically your security system can transmit this data via phone line/voip services, broadband internet, WiFi, Cellular or dual path communications. If GEOARM receives alarm signals from your security system we will analyze those signals, reach out to your emergency call list that you have provided to us, if there is no answer or a wrong password is given we will dispatch the proper authorities to your location for police, fire or medical services. In most cases if you are activating your security system for insurance purposes this will be the option you are going to want to go with. Reason being is because in order to meet most insurance company requirements for a certificate of alarm they want to have your security system signals picked up by a professional alarm monitoring company.

Home Security Advise for the Winter

Home Security Tips

Home Security Tips

With all of the pleasant holidays thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa all wrapped up in the winter months many people tend to get lost in all the joy and forget some key factors in home security and safety. Winter makes for a perfect time for intruders because you can bet there will be tons of distractions, traffic, less daylight, and most importantly lots and lots of expensive gifts.

Lets keep the holiday spirit going but, before you begin we are going to give you some simple tips to stay protected this winter.

1) Hide Tools

Many people during this time of the year put there tools to good use. Hanging decorations or shoveling snow out of the side walks and driveways. Make sure once you have completed the task take your tools and place them back inside so those tools cannot be used to pry open your doors or windows.

2) Limit Social Media

Lets face it social media is every where but, that doesn’t mean you have to place all of your personal information for everyone to see. Intruders can monitor social media accounts to get up to date information on travel information and or your whereabouts. Inform everyone who lives in the household to limit status updates until arrival from trip.

3) Make it seem as if someone is home

Intruders typically monitor a neighborhood before they select a target. So you want to make your home look as if it is occupied even when you are away on a vacation. Ask a neighbor or friend to stop by daily to collect incoming mail and newspapers. Also, to shovel the driveway and walkways to make its seem as if the home is still being maintained.

4) Leave Lights on

During the winter months set up timers to activate interior and exterior lights if possible. Proper lighting during the evening will deter a home intruder. Look into a security system that has randomized lighting control option for convenience.

5) Make sure Doors and Windows are Closed

This is by far the most common mistake home owners make. Something as simple as checking all doors and windows making sure they are locked can be the difference between an intruder choosing to enter or flee to another home.

6) Be Discrete with your Gift Purchases

Many home owners love to show off their Christmas tress and decorations inside there home. You will drive by some house’s and be able to look directly in seeing all of the gifts sitting under the tree. Try not to do this because it shows that you do have items to offer an intruder if they decide to go with your home. This also goes for your trash don’t throw the gift boxes directly into the trash and leave it in the front of your house. Try to make one large garbage bag and throw it away in an offsite location all at once.

7) Home security System

If you don’t have a Home security system you should think about installing one in your home. Intruders will typically stay away from a home that has a home security system. If they have been watching your home they will see whether you have one or not by the interaction between home owner and system. The security signs and stickers that are provided make sure to flaunt those where people can see so they know you are protected. Lastly, make sure to test your alarm signals once a week and before headed out of town.

Hopefully these tips will help  keep you and your family safe!

Honeywell’s AlarmNet Vista-Series Wireless 4G Cellular Alarm Communicator

gsmx4g twitter sized

The Honeywell GSMX4G cellular alarm communicator is usually used in conjunction with the Honeywell Vista series wired alarm systems but, it can also be used with the Honeywell LYNX Plus L3000 wireless security system. Many people wonder what the main differences are between the GSMX4G vs the GSMV4G. The main differences between these two cellular communicators is the fact that the GSMX4G does not require its own power supply aka “transformer” as contrary to the GSMV4G which will require its own transformer for power. Though there is a way to wire the GSMV4G to your existing control panel’s transformer we would recommend using the GSMX4G if this is how you would like configure your system. The GSMX4G was created with a low current draw so it can be powered through the ecp terminals.

The GSMX4G comes with a threaded adapter so you can screw it into the top of the vista series alarm control can. All you would have to do is remove one of the knockouts located on the top right of the can and screw the GSMX4G into the designated area. This communicator is also compatible with multi-gsm platforms including 2g,3g,and 4g applications. This device will automatically select the best gsm network in your area. Best of all this communicator will still offer you all of the same features you have come to love from Honeywell’s total connect 2.o interactive alarm monitoring services.
